Episode 13 raises the emotional stakes even further when Seo-ri’s grandmother’s health takes a serious turn. The situation forces the characters to think about family, time and the consequences of their choices.
Dan-sim is also faced with a difficult ultimatum that puts her future with Se-gye at risk. After everything she has experienced, this becomes one of the hardest decisions she has to make.
The episode works because it does not treat Dan-sim’s decision as something simple. Every option comes with a cost. Choosing the modern world means leaving behind the era and people connected to her original identity, while accepting her fate means potentially losing Se-gye.
Se-gye is also forced to confront the possibility that love cannot solve every problem. His determination to stay with Dan-sim is genuine, but the circumstances surrounding their relationship are bigger than either of them.
By the end of Episode 13, the audience is left with the feeling that the finale will not simply be about defeating a villain or resolving a family conflict. It will be about whether fate itself can be changed.
