Episode 2
Episode Review
Episode 2 focuses more heavily on Dan-simβs attempt to survive in the modern world. She has already realized that returning to Joseon is not going to be easy, so she begins thinking about how she can establish herself in this unfamiliar society. Her old personality quickly proves useful because she understands people extremely well and has no problem taking advantage of an opportunity when she sees one.
Cha Se-gye becomes increasingly interested in the strange woman in front of him. From his perspective, Seo-ri behaves completely differently from the people he normally deals with. She is unpredictable, blunt and strangely confident. Instead of being impressed by his wealth, she often challenges him, which naturally makes him even more curious about her.
The episode starts building the relationship between the two leads while continuing to introduce the supporting characters around Seo-ri. The comedy comes naturally from the clash between Dan-simβs Joseon mindset and modern Seoul, while the romantic side of the story begins to develop underneath those funny moments.
What makes Episode 2 particularly enjoyable is that Dan-sim does not suddenly become a helpless fish out of water. She adapts quickly. She may not understand modern technology, but she understands human behavior, ambition and survival, and those skills remain useful regardless of the century.
The episode ends with Se-gye becoming more involved in Seo-riβs life, setting up the romantic and dramatic complications that will become more important in the following episodes.
