Rutba Episode 9 Review: Hadi’s Growing Interest, Meer’s Powerful Connections, and an Uncomfortable Party!

Episode 9 of Rutba takes the story further into the complicated relationships surrounding Hadi, Mahnoor, Meer, and Shahnaz. What begins with Shahnaz making thoughtful comments about love gradually turns into a rather uncomfortable evening at Meer’s house. Meanwhile, Anisa’s situation continues to expose the painful reality of a marriage where money, control, and emotional abuse have become part of everyday life. And Hadi? He seems to have developed a rather interesting habit of being in the same places as Shahnaz.

Shahnaz’s Unusual Conversation About Love

The episode opens with Shahnaz praising Mahnoor and telling her how lucky she is to have a husband like Hadi. According to Shahnaz, Hadi loves her very much. Mahnoor responds by saying that Shahnaz also has Meer, who loves her. That is when Shahnaz delivers a rather interesting observation: sometimes we love people who don’t love us back, while the people who love us are not necessarily the ones we love. Mahnoor is understandably confused and asks her to explain what she means. Shahnaz simply replies that sometimes she says things she doesn’t understand herself. That last response is almost as mysterious as the statement itself. Is Shahnaz talking about her own marriage, Hadi, or something else entirely? The writers are clearly keeping her intentions deliberately unclear.

Hadi’s Double Standards Begin to Show

Hadi calls Mahnoor to check on her health. When she mentions that Shahnaz is visiting, he suddenly ends the conversation, claiming he has work to do. Shahnaz then asks Mahnoor to show her the kitchen garden and once again invites the couple to her house. Later, Hadi returns home and notices the daisies Shahnaz has brought for Mahnoor. He finds Mahnoor sleeping and changes out of his uniform. Once she wakes up, he starts asking questions about Shahnaz’s visit.

He wants to know whether Mahnoor invited her. Mahnoor says she didn’t and explains that Shahnaz probably heard their conversation when she called Hadi. Hadi agrees, conveniently leaving out the little detail that he had been having tea with Shahnaz at the gym. Apparently, some information is best kept off the household record! He also questions Mahnoor about not knowing that Shahnaz attends the same gym. Hadi claims he didn’t know either, then advises Mahnoor not to get too close to her.

During dinner, he questions how Mahnoor and Shahnaz became friends despite having very different backgrounds. He explains that he is a civil servant, while Meer and Shahnaz belong to a wealthy business family. Mahnoor points out something interesting: since Hadi returned, he seems to talk about Shahnaz all the time. She also tells him that Shahnaz made a strange comment about Hadi not liking her being at their house. Hadi’s response is straightforward: Mahnoor should avoid Shahnaz. There is an obvious contradiction here. Hadi wants Mahnoor to maintain her distance, yet he himself keeps noticing Shahnaz, looking at her at the gym, and accepting invitations when she is around. If he is genuinely concerned about boundaries, perhaps he should start by following his own advice.

Anisa’s Situation Gets Worse

The episode also gives considerable attention to Anisa, whose circumstances are becoming increasingly heartbreaking. Hadi tells Mahnoor that he has brought Anisa back to his parents’ home because Naseer demanded Rs. 500,000. Hadi does not want his sister to return to that household. Mahnoor questions his decision and makes an important point: if Hadi were a father, would he have left his children behind? She also asks whether paying the demanded amount would actually solve the problem.

Hadi says it would not and walks away. Meanwhile, Hadi’s father contacts Naseer and explains that arranging Rs. 500,000 is not possible for the family. Naseer responds by questioning why Hadi promised the money if they could not afford it. He makes it clear that he will only take Anisa back once the money is paid. The call ends, but the situation at Naseer’s house is no less disturbing. He shouts at the children for not eating, while Anisa breaks down in tears at her parents’ home. She explains that her children refuse to eat from anyone else. Hadi’s father then considers taking Anisa back to Naseer’s house, despite not knowing whether Naseer will accept her. His wife questions what will happen if he refuses.

The younger brother silently watches the entire discussion, looking increasingly frustrated. This storyline highlights a painful reality: Anisa is caught between an abusive husband, financial demands, and the emotional pressure of being separated from her children. Her parents are trying to find a solution, but the family’s financial limitations make every decision more difficult. There is also a troubling question surrounding Hadi’s promise of Rs. 500,000. His intentions may have been to protect his sister, but making a financial commitment without having the means to fulfil it has created another problem for the family. More importantly, Naseer’s demand is not a genuine attempt to resolve the marriage. It is another way of maintaining control.

Hadi, Shahnaz, and Meer: The Gym Connection Continues

Back at the gym, Shahnaz is working out when Hadi arrives. As usual, Hadi seems rather interested in what is happening around her. After completing his workout, Hadi meets Meer in the parking lot. Meer invites him to a small party at his house. Hadi initially appears ready to refuse, but Shahnaz joins them and eventually convinces him to attend. It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore how often Shahnaz’s presence changes Hadi’s decisions.

Hadi Discovers a Different World at Meer’s House

Hadi and Mahnoor get ready for the party and arrive together. Seeing the expensive cars parked outside, Hadi briefly wonders whether he should have brought his official government vehicle instead of their smaller personal car. Mahnoor reminds him that this is a private party, not an official visit. Once inside, however, Hadi becomes visibly uncomfortable. Looking around the house and taking in the surroundings, he tells Mahnoor that perhaps they should leave. Mahnoor notices his discomfort and makes an interesting observation: this is the first time she has seen Hadi with such low self-esteem. It is an important moment because Hadi has always been presented as a man who stands firmly by his principles. He refuses favours, questions authority, and believes in doing things on merit. But entering Meer’s world makes him realise just how different their social and financial positions are. Mahnoor’s comment is also worth remembering. There is a difference between maintaining one’s principles and feeling inferior because someone else has more money. Hadi needs to understand that distinction.

Meer’s Influence Becomes More Visible

Shahnaz takes Mahnoor on a tour of the house, while Meer introduces Hadi to some of his friends. Shahnaz eventually takes Mahnoor to a bedroom where she can sit and relax. Meanwhile, Meer introduces Hadi to a senior police officer, with the SP also present. Meer casually introduces Hadi as his friend and suggests that the officers should look into arranging a car and a house for him. The senior officer then tells the SP to take care of things. The SP clearly does not appreciate seeing Hadi associated with Meer. This scene is particularly interesting because it demonstrates how Meer operates. He does not necessarily need to make direct demands. A casual introduction, a few words to the right people, and a suggestion about arranging a car or house can be enough to put pressure on someone. For Hadi, this is a dangerous situation. He has already rejected Meer’s gifts and offers, but being introduced to senior officials in this manner puts him in an uncomfortable position. His professional independence could become difficult to maintain if people start treating him as Meer’s personal connection.

Then a minister arrives. Meer goes to greet him and takes Hadi along. The minister asks about Shahnaz in a manner that sounds rather inappropriate, leaving Hadi visibly shocked. Meer responds that Shahnaz will meet him later and introduces Hadi as the new ASP, Hadi Hussain. That brief exchange raises several questions about the relationship between Meer, Shahnaz, and the people who attend these gatherings. It also suggests that Hadi may be entering a social environment where power and influence come with expectations he does not fully understand.

The Final Scene: An Unwelcome Guest

While Hadi is being introduced to influential people, Shahnaz leaves Mahnoor in the bedroom and tells her she will return in ten minutes. She gives Mahnoor a doorbell and explains that she can use it if she needs anything, as someone will come to serve her. Mahnoor is left alone. Then a drunken man walks into the room. And the episode ends.

It is an effective cliffhanger, especially because Mahnoor has been left in an unfamiliar house, away from Hadi and without knowing who this man is or what he wants. The timing of Shahnaz’s departure also raises questions. Was it simply an unfortunate coincidence, or is there something more deliberate happening? The next episode will hopefully reveal whether Mahnoor is in danger and how Hadi will react when he discovers what has happened.

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

Episode 9 successfully builds tension through relationships, social class, political influence, and family problems. The Anisa storyline remains emotionally powerful, while Shahnaz’s behaviour and Hadi’s growing interest in her add another layer of uncertainty. The most interesting development is the contrast between Hadi’s principles and the world Meer is inviting him into. Hadi may believe he can maintain his independence, but Meer’s influence is already reaching into his professional and personal life. And with Mahnoor now alone in a bedroom with an unexpected drunk guest, the party has officially become more complicated than anyone planned.
