Episode Review

The East Palace Episode 3 raises the stakes considerably. The king is no longer willing to wait. Gu-cheon is ordered to save the prince, and the consequences of failure are made brutally clear. Save the prince or die. So much for having a normal workday.

Gu-cheon’s Impossible Mission

Gu-cheon is now facing a much more dangerous situation. The royal family expects him to protect the prince, but the supernatural threat is becoming harder to understand. This isn’t simply a matter of finding a spirit and defeating it. Gu-cheon has to enter the spirit realm, where the rules are different and the dangers are much harder to predict. That makes the episode feel more intense than the previous two.

Entering the Spirit Realm

The spirit realm is one of the most interesting elements of the drama. It isn’t simply another location. It feels like a completely different reality. Gu-cheon encounters the ghost of a former royal guard, and this encounter becomes important because it suggests that the palace’s supernatural problems are deeply connected to its history. The dead aren’t appearing randomly. They have stories. They have grievances. And some of those grievances are connected directly to the royal family.

The Prince Becomes More Important

The danger surrounding the prince also gives the royal storyline more urgency. The palace isn’t simply investigating ghosts anymore. The survival of the royal bloodline is becoming part of the mystery. That raises an important question: Is the supernatural threat attacking the royal family because of something they are doing now, or because of something they did in the past? Episode 3 doesn’t completely answer that. Instead, it gives us more reasons to suspect the second possibility.

Gu-cheon Is Starting to See the Bigger Picture

One of the most interesting developments is that Gu-cheon is no longer simply following orders. He’s starting to investigate. He’s noticing connections. He’s questioning what he’s being told. And that is exactly what the royal family should be worried about. Because once Gu-cheon starts asking questions, keeping secrets becomes much harder.

Final Thoughts

Episode 3 takes the story deeper into the supernatural side of The East Palace. The spirit realm becomes more important, the prince’s situation raises the stakes and Gu-cheon’s investigation starts moving beyond simply defeating the pond spirit. The mystery is getting bigger. And unfortunately for everyone in the palace, bigger mysteries usually mean bigger ghosts.

Episode 3 Rating: 8.3/10

A darker and more intense episode that expands the spirit world while pushing Gu-cheon closer to the truth.
