Phantom Lawyer Episode 5 Review: Guilty or Innocent?

Phantom Lawyer Episode 5 introduces a complicated case involving a gifted scientist whose death places his wife at the centre of a serious legal dispute. The situation becomes particularly challenging for Shin I-rang because Han Na-hyeon takes on the role of the wife’s defence lawyer.

This development creates a conflict that goes beyond the facts of the case. I-rang and Na-hyeon have begun developing a working relationship, but their professional responsibilities may require them to approach the same situation from opposing sides. Their disagreement is not simply personal. Each lawyer must consider the evidence, the circumstances of the death, and the obligations attached to representing a client.

The title asks a straightforward question, but the case encourages viewers to consider how difficult it can be to establish the truth when serious accusations and emotional relationships are involved. A person’s reputation does not automatically establish guilt, just as grief alone cannot resolve every unanswered question.

The scientist’s death also adds a darker tone to the series. The supernatural premise allows I-rang to explore information that might otherwise remain inaccessible, but his unusual ability does not remove the need for careful investigation and legal reasoning.

Na-hyeon’s involvement is especially valuable because it challenges I-rang to recognise that another lawyer may have legitimate reasons for reaching a different conclusion. Their contrasting approaches give the episode its strongest source of tension.

Episode 5 continues to demonstrate that Phantom Lawyer is more than a comedy about a lawyer who sees ghosts. It is also a story about evidence, responsibility, and the difficult distinction between suspicion and proof.
