Episode Review

When a Game Turns Into a Debt Trap

Episode 7 changes the type of danger once again. This time, the ERPB investigates a teenage boy named Lee Jae-yun, whose online gambling addiction has left his family facing enormous financial problems. And this episode quickly proves that gambling doesn’t need a casino to destroy someone. Sometimes all it needs is a phone.

A Family Already in Trouble

Jae-yun’s father comes to the bureau after his son accumulates a massive gambling debt. The family has already paid a huge amount of money to deal with his previous debt. But Jae-yun returns to gambling. The cycle starts again. This is what makes the case different from the earlier school stories. The problem isn’t simply happening inside the school. It follows the student home. It affects his parents. It affects their finances. And eventually, it attracts criminals.

Geun-dae Goes Undercover

Geun-dae becomes the center of the investigation when he goes undercover at Jae-yun’s school. The gambling operation is presented as something much more harmless than it actually is. Students are promised bonuses. They are encouraged to invite friends. The whole thing looks like a game. Until the money disappears. Then the debt starts.

The Referral Trap

Students are encouraged to recruit others. That means the people participating aren’t only gambling themselves. They are helping the business grow. And because they are students, they become easy targets. A small amount of money can be enough to attract someone. Then the debt grows. Then the threats begin.

The Situation Becomes Dangerous

Geun-dae eventually discovers that the gambling operation is connected to loan sharks and criminal activity. Students who cannot repay their debts are pressured into doing other things. This is where the episode becomes much darker. What initially looked like a simple online game turns into a system designed to trap young people.

Han-rim and Geun-dae

Episode 7 also gives more attention to Han-rim and Geun-dae’s relationship. Han-rim is energetic and impulsive. Geun-dae is much calmer. Their personalities are almost complete opposites. And yes, Hwa-jin definitely seems to notice what’s happening between them before either of them wants to admit it. The lighter moments help balance the darker case.

Final Thoughts

Episode 7 is a good example of how Teach You a Lesson expands beyond traditional school bullying. There may not be someone standing in the hallway punching students. Instead, the violence comes through debt, manipulation, threats and exploitation. The most disturbing part is how easily the trap begins. It starts with a game. Then a referral bonus. Then a little debt. Then suddenly the student is trapped.

Episode 7 Rating: 8.3/10

A darker crime-focused episode with a strong undercover storyline for Geun-dae. The gambling case expands the series beyond school violence and shows how easily students can be exploited outside the classroom.
