Season 1

β˜… 8.4/10

The first season of Teach You a Lesson starts with what looks like a simple premise: send a government inspector into schools where teachers have lost control and let him deal with the students who think they are untouchable. But the series quickly becomes much bigger than that.

Na Hwa-jin is not the typical calm investigator who walks into a school, asks a few questions and waits for the evidence to appear. He is aggressive, intimidating and often willing to cross boundaries that a normal authority figure would never consider. That makes him entertaining to watch, but it also creates one of the show’s more interesting questions: when the system has failed, how far should someone go to fix it? The first two episodes establish the show’s style through school bullying and gang violence. Episode 1 introduces Ryu Jun-hyeong, a student protected by his powerful father, while Episode 2 moves into a school where gang culture has almost completely replaced education.

Show Review

When respect and authority begin collapsing inside schools, the South Korean government establishes the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, an organization created to protect teachers and restore order in troubled schools.

At the center of the bureau is Na Hwa-jin, a former special forces captain who has little patience for people who abuse their power. Unlike a conventional investigator, Hwa-jin is willing to use aggressive and unconventional methods when dealing with students, parents, teachers, and powerful people who believe they are untouchable.

Working alongside him are Im Han-rim, a former soldier with her own unpredictable methods, and Bong Geun-dae, a quieter member of the team who provides technical support and often finds himself dragged into Hwa-jin and Han-rim’s chaotic investigations.

Each case takes the team into a different part of the education system. From students protected by political connections to school gangs, online influencers, corrupt teachers, demanding parents, juvenile criminals, gambling, academic pressure, and drugs, the problems they encounter become increasingly serious.

But beneath these individual cases is a much more personal story. Hwa-jin and Education Minister Choi Gang-seok are both connected to the death of Choi Ga-yun, a tragedy that helped shape their determination to change the system.

As the season progresses, the cases begin connecting to a larger conspiracy, forcing the bureau to confront enemies both inside and outside the education system.
